If you haven’t heard about porcelain veneers, the chances are very good that you have at least seen them. Perhaps you have a friend or a co-worker who has beautiful teeth. Or maybe you have been binge-watching your favorite Netflix series and wondering how all those actors can have such dazzling smiles. In many of these cases, these people might have porcelain veneers, which can completely transform the way your teeth look and the way you feel.
Also known as dental veneers, porcelain veneers are shells made from a translucent, tooth-like material, that fits over the front surfaces of your own teeth. They can correct many dental imperfections and are a far less costly alternative to crowns because they do not cover the entire tooth. With porcelain veneers, you can have a whiter smile, and even alter the shape or length of your teeth. Basically, porcelain veneers address the following flaws:
Once you and Dr. Addy have determined that porcelain veneers are the right cosmetic procedure for you, first he will prepare your tooth by removing a thin layer of enamel. This ensures that your veneer will adhere properly. Then, he will take impressions of your teeth. These impressions are sent to a dental lab, where your veneers will be created. Once we receive the veneer from the lab, you will come in for another visit, during which Dr. Addy may do a bit more tooth preparation and will also make sure that the veneer is the right shape and color. Finally, he will use a special adhesive to cement the veneer in place, use a special light to cure it, and send you on your way with the smile you have always wanted.
One of the biggest benefits of porcelain veneers is that they require no more care than you give to your natural teeth. If you care enough about your appearance to be considering dental veneers, then you’re likely already brushing and flossing regularly. Just keep up these good habits, and of course, see us every six months for regular checkups and cleanings. If you maintain them properly, your veneers can last a long, long time.
