Straightening Your Smile

Most people want straighter teeth, but not braces. The fear of metallic braces often keeps people away from straightening crooked teeth for years or a lifetime, but that’s precisely why it’s time to embrace the stunning benefits of Invisalign aligners. Dr. Addy recommends Invisalign as the ideal teeth alignment option for anyone desiring straighter teeth without the social discomfort inherent with traditional braces. He also provides a detailed computer-generated overview of the treatment path, so you know what your teeth will eventually look like.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign, popularly called “invisible braces,” refers to a popular orthodontic treatment that straightens your teeth without visibility. Invisalign aligners are made of clear thermoplastic material, making them essentially invisible to a casual observer. They apply pressure on your teeth to move them in the desired direction over several months. They’re far more attractive and convenient than traditional braces, especially since they’re removable. As long as you wear them for at least 22 hours a day, you have the freedom to take them off before meals.

How does Invisalign Aligners Work?

Invisalign aligner trays are custom-made, transparent, and plastic aligners that gradually shift your teeth and bite in the correct direction. Your dentist carefully analyzes your teeth to create the ideal treatment plan, with a unique Invisalign aligner for every stage of your treatment. You have to wear each aligner for approximately two weeks and then move on to the next aligner. As you move from one aligner to the next, your teeth move in a pre-planned treatment path towards optimal alignment.

Initially, Invisalign could only address mild or moderate orthodontic issues. However, due to recent advances, Invisalign aligners can be outfitted with attachments that add more pressure, making them suitable for more difficult cases. Invisalign aligners can now treat most orthodontic issues, including an overbite, underbite, gaps between the teeth, overcrowded teeth, etc. Dr. Addy will examine your teeth, take impressions of your teeth, and provide a computer-generated treatment overview to show you how your teeth will look at every stage of the process.

Invisalign Benefits:

Invisalign aligners are made of clear and transparent thermoplastic, so they aren’t visible to a casual observer. They adhere perfectly to the contours of your teeth, making them essentially invisible. They might be visible on close inspection, but it’s safe to assume people won’t ask you to open your mouth wide for a close examination.

Invisalign aligners provide gradual and uniform force to move your teeth in the desired direction over an extended period. The pressure is uniform but gentle, and most people eventually get used to it. The lack of metallic components or wires ensures there’s no risk of irritation on the teeth and gums.

Invisalign aligners are removable, so you can take them off before meals or while brushing. As long as you wear them for 20 to 22 hours a day, you can choose when you want to take them off. This allows you to eat whatever you want, play sports, and maintain optimal oral hygiene without staining or damaging them.

With traditional braces, you have to visit the orthodontist every few weeks to have them tightened or adjusted. However, Invisalign aligners don’t need adjustment; you just need to change the aligners every two weeks. Regular dental visits are recommended but not necessary. As such, you can even travel out of state without worries.

Orthodontic treatments with traditional braces usually last for up to 3 years. However, Invisalign aligners have to be worn for 6 to 18 months in most cases, making them a lot more efficient than traditional options. Furthermore, you’ll be given a detailed timeline before starting with the treatment, so you know what to expect.

The most important aspect of Invisalign treatment is the confidence it gives you. You can smile and laugh comfortably without embarrassment. You can eat whatever you like without the fear of stains showing on your braces, and you can finally embrace a uniform and straightened set of teeth at the end of the journey.

Invisalign Procedure

The Invisalign treatment process will start with an initial consultation with Dr. Addy. He’ll determine if you’re a viable candidate for Invisalign treatment, by taking X-rays, photographs, and impressions of your teeth. He’ll enter the relevant details into the computer software to generate a 3D overview of how your teeth will move at every stage of your Invisalign treatment. He might make a few adjustments to the rendition to ensure optimal results and convenience and then ask for the aligners to be prepared.

The Invisalign aligners will be prepared in about a month. You’ll have to return to our office for the aligners once they’re ready. Dr. Addy will help you wear the aligners and provide guidelines on how to wear and maintain them for optimal results. You’ll have to change the aligners every two weeks, according to the dentist’s recommendations. Dr. Addy will also schedule a few appointments at regular intervals through your journey to ensure your teeth are progressing correctly and make potential adjustments.

After the last Invisalign aligners have been worn, you’ll have to wear retainers for a few more weeks. The retainers complete the treatment, giving your jawbone enough time to solidify around the new positions. They essentially prevent your teeth from moving back to their original position and undoing months of progress.
